North Carolina Blueberry Festival 5K

This morning I signed up for the North Carolina Blueberry Festival 5k in Burgaw, NC (about 30 mins from the house). I felt decent heading into the run. Earlier this week I ran 4 out of 6 400m repeats under 75 seconds. The week before that I ran a mock 5k at 17:44.

The pack started out fast, but I was able to hold back. At the mile marker it was just me and two other runners (just under a 5:30 pace). At mile two I had fallen off the two lead runners but still had third pretty much wrapped up. When we were coming up to the finish line, I checked my watch and I was way too fast. I crossed at 15:45. Turns out, there was about a half-mile stretch we were suppose to run, but nobody was there to mark it or guide us on to that part of the course. So we finished about two minutes faster than we should have. Upsetting, for sure, but whatever. As Crystal says, just a warm up for September.

Run hard.

Crescent City Classic - New Orleans

I'm not in competitive 10k shape, so I didn't mind taking this one easy. Crystal asked me if I would run with her 10-year-old brother and help pace him. Of course I agreed. The crowd was enormous. Think Mardi Gras except it's a 10k. Joe and I finished with a time of 1:09:30. This was a 20-minute improvement from last year for him. I was glad to help him out.

Run hard.

UPDATE: I've had this weird drive lately to get into a marathon and be competitive. I've decided on the Air Force Marathon, September 17, Dayton, OH.
